Dear Colleagues:
Welcome back to a new and exciting year of teaching. I look forward to taking the helm of the Westchester County School Music Association. It is an organization filled with dedicated individuals who do amazing things.
As I start to celebrate my 20th year as an instrumental teacher in Westchester County, I can’t help but reflect on the fact that for all of those 20 years I have been a member of WCSMA and NYSSMA.
It has been two decades of building friendships and networking with colleagues. I have watched my students and students from other schools take part in a music experience that has changed them in a positive manner. It has taught me the importance of collaboration. Whether you are new to the County or a veteran teacher who has not yet been involved, come join us!
Everything that WCSMA does is done by people who already have full time positions. Nobody becomes a WCSMA Coordinator or a Chairperson because they have figured out how to magically add more hours to their days. They do it because they get a gratifying feeling from seeing a job done well. They do it because they see the positive impact it has on students. They do it because it is fun to work with other colleagues from Westchester who believe in the same things that they do. You may decide to offer your time to serve on a committee, be a chair, or run for a position on the Executive Board; your efforts will impact our students, colleagues and the county in a positive way.
