AREA ALL-STATE CHORUSES 2007

Dear Chorus Participant,

Congratulations on being accepted into the NYSSMA Area All-State Mixed Chorus or Women’s Chorus! We are delighted that we have so many talented singers in our midst that we can offer two honors ensembles. You represent the best of our county and we are looking forward to working with you.

This year, the guest conductors are Janos Horvath (Women’s Chorus) and David Hodgkins (Mixed Chorus). You are sure to have a wonderful time working with these talented conductors.

As you know from your original application, attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. Please be on time and expect to stay for the entire rehearsal. Any student who misses any portion of a rehearsal for any reason will not be allowed to participate. You are expected to bring the following to every rehearsal: music, two sharpened pencils, water, and meals. Come to all rehearsals prepared to work hard and be attentive. At this level, discipline problems should not be an issue and will not be tolerated. Participation is an honor and we have every confidence you will represent yourself and your school proudly. Handle your music with care, and only make markings in pencil. A $5.00 fee will be charged for each octavo (piece of music) that is lost or damaged.

Your experience in this choir will only be as good as the level of preparation that you put into it before the first rehearsal. Please take some time to review your music prior to the first rehearsal. Those who come unprepared severely limit the potential of the entire choir. The first rehearsal should not be spent on learning notes and rhythms but rather working out the more difficult tonal and rhythm passages as well as practicing difficult transitions. We want you to be able to put the music together in the first rehearsal. Make the most of this great opportunity and come prepared!
